HIKING

We can design a hiking package for any preference or fitness level. Group sizes can be up to 8 (9 including the guide). No previous hiking experience is required with any of the tracks - all equipment required can be supplied. As part of the trip, the guide's knowledge on the local environment is provided in a running commentary. Depending on the customers interests, the guide will discuss interesting facts on the native birds/plants/shrubs/trees and alpine flora seen on the tracks.

This season we are promoting two all inclusive packages. We are developing several other packages to be available in the near future to include the water taxi and other incredible sites (please enquire if the below options do not meet your requirements). Both packages below are located in 'backcountry' visitor settings where visitor numbers are strictly limited and it is likely you will not see any other parties on the track.

One day Mount Eldrig trip

This trip covers a huge diversity of scenery from distinct subalpine native forest to alpine tussock, rocky outcrops and mountain tarns. There are views for miles once hikers are above the bush line. Upon reaching the pinnacle of the hike, hikers arrive at massive glacial formed boulders with white quartz pebbles underfoot. The scenery makes you feel like you have reached another world.

Hikers must have a medium to high level of fitness and agility to do this trip. The hike includes a steep climb to a height of over 1200m (we climb over 700m in a short distance) and terrain is at times uneven underfoot. It is only approximately 7 km return in distance to walk and coming back down is a lot quicker than going up. A fit person could do the trip in 4.5 hours, so by allowing 7 to do the walk, this reduces the effort. Please don't hesitate to enquire about this trip as it is my favorite of all the walks we cover and a truly special experience.

  • Approximately 7 hours with plenty of breaks for photo's and rest
  • One hour travel each way from Te Anau - FREE PICK UP AND DROP OFF
  • Maximum party size is 7 including guide
  • All equipment can be provided including: day pack, walking poles, morning tea and lunch
  • Price is $185 including GST
  • Every Tuesday during summer season. Must book before 3pm on the Monday.
  • Weather conditions may cause reschedule.

Two day Green Lake Hut trip

Hike through native Beech forest, large tussock clearings, pristine mountain streams as well as passing-by vast mountain lakes. Travellers arrive to spend the night at the shores of a picturesque mountain lake. Travellers will spend the night in a DOC hut or camp, enjoy a group cooked meal and socialize with the small party. The group can participate in camping activities and those that want to freshen up can have a swim in the Lake. The second day involves a climb above the forest line with magnificent 360 degree views and unique alpine plants.

Hikers must have a medium level of fitness as there are some periods of uneven terrain and steep climbs. Parts of the hike are fairly gentle and we take our time to absorb the scenery. Hikers are required to carry packs with enough equipment for an overnight stay including a sleeping bag and possibly a tent. Approximate weight of packs is 11kg or less. Suitable footwear must be worn with hiking boots highly recommended.

  • Day one 4 hours hiking
  • Day two 7 hours hiking
  • Overnight stay in a modern DOC hut or camp in tents
  • All equipment can be provided including: pack, down sleeping bag, walking pole, all meals.
  • FREE PICK UP AND DROP OFF IN TE ANAU.
  • Price: $275 including GST
  • Every Thursday during summer season. Must book before 3pm on Wednesday
  • Weather conditions may cause reschedule.
