Welcome!

Hiking          Fishing        Water Taxi (coming soon)

Fiordland Fishing Safaris is based at Lake Monowai - only 4 km from the gates to Fiordland National Park, the largest national park in New Zealand and a world heritage area.

The business started as a fishing guiding business only, but has now branched out to incorporate hiking to take advantage of the world class trails in the area.

Fiordland Fishing Safaris prides itself on being located amongst many of the greatest trout fishing locations in New Zealand. Year round fishing is available in the local lakes, including Lake Monowai (only 6km down the road), Lake Te Anau, Lake Hauroko and North Mavora Lakes. Guests can also experience fishing remote spots in the national park that are rarely visited by fishermen due to their isolation.  Seasonal fishing is available in the Waiau, Monowai, Borland, and Grebe rivers. Rainbows and Browns can be caught at each location and the native forest surroundings mean there is plenty of natural forest run-off for trout to thrive on.

Hiking along the DoC (Department of Conservation) tracks in the area will take you through unique, remote and spectacular sites. The diversity in terrain means that hikers of all backgrounds and fitness levels can enjoy the experience. Alpine plant varieties, tussocks, rocky outcrops, hidden mountain lakes and beech forest are all accessible on most of the tracks used.

Most of the locations for fishing and hiking are classified by DoC as 'backcountry' which means visitor numbers are limited in order to preserve the natural beauty.

Glen and Kristen have combined their passions for the outdoors by providing fishing and hiking guiding. The Monowai area with its unique and secluded environment is perfect for these activities.
